And so it begins...

I finally made it to Ireland. I am sitting in my dorm room (which needs some homey touches) and you would never guess what happens next... Mom- there is a SPIDERFLY in my room!!! This cannot be happening. All the way across the country and they still sneak into my sleeping quarters.

Well anyway, lets start from the beginning! Woke up at 6am Sunday, flew to Chicago, then to London, and finally to Belfast. I was greeted by a girl holding up a sign for University of Ulster which was a relief because I was afraid I would be wondering around the airport figuring out how to get on a bus to Coleraine. Once we were on the bus, I met a few fellow abroad students who I like a lot. One girl's name is Emily and she's from Canada, one guy's name is something I cannot pronounce so I told him I would call him Sam because it was close enough. He is from Greece (really want to visit there!!) Once we got there we got our keys to our rooms and all spread out. I live on the second floor with my own bedroom (Thank God). The kitchen is downstairs along with a bathroom. There's another bathroom upstairs as well. I posted pictures above of my room even though I have not decorated or anything. I have an amazingly beautiful view from my window which I will show you sometime when it's light out. If you would like to write me or send something in the mail, this is my address:

Pretty long!

Once I got settled in my friends and I went to the International Student lounge. Its a pub/bar inside the university with couches and a pool table and games. It was fun meeting new people but I was so tired that I was a bit unsocial. We ate dinner at a welcoming buffet in the Student Union and headed back to the dorms. Thats where I am now and I am about to shower and pass out! I can't wait :)

Sweet dreams everyone.

  1. Sweet dreams, indeed, Ellie Darlin'! You did it! You got there in one piece and on your own. Thank goodness, and way to go! I'm really glad it worked out for you to have your own space, and with a view no less!(And there is no such thing as a spiderfly, as you may know, it's a Crane fly and they are totally harmless and so fragile they fall apart if you wave your hand at them - maybe you brought it with you in your bags:)) Congratulations sweetie, now the cultural adventure can begin since the travel adventure is accomplished.:) Couldn't be prouder of you!

  2. Hahahahahahahahaha.....Oh my god the spider fly thing is hilarious- and it's hilarious that dad is so right about how fragile they are and yet they still freak you out. hahaha.

I can't believe you're there!!! I'm so so happy that you met some people already and like your room and have your own space, yaaaay! What did you eat for dinner? How was it different than your dining hall?

Beckett and I are sitting here watching Monday Night Football tonight- that's something you won't be doing for a long time. :) Welp, I'll be looking for the updates on here! And don't forget to post the picture of your view. LOVE YOU SISTA

  4. Thanks guys.

Dad- I know hey are techically called Craneflys, but they look like spiders with wings and they freak me out!

BB- It was a buffet for dinner but it wasn't fancy in any means. It was free for all students so they served little hot wings, weird sausages that I didn't perfer, qeesh (can't spell it), sandwhich triangles, and BEER!!! Haha, I actually didn't have any beer because I would have just passed out on the couch I was eating on. It was in the Student Union and it looks like a pub/hang out room with tables and stools and benches and couches everywhere. Its really cool. In the back there is a stage too. Some guy was playing Irish music on the stage when I was there.

Beckett- I was so thankful I took my backpack, much more practical than a cute little purse!:)

  5. So glad you crossed the pond successfully, Ellie! What a wonderful adventure!

And glad you have found a comfortable hang out, for when you do feel rested and more social - and all with Irish music as the soundtrack. :)

I know you'll have fun making your room more homey... and if you use Irish stuff, you'll have great souvenirs for afterwards. Enjoy your view, you won't be able to take that home. :)

I bet you'll run across a lot of different types of food there. Have fun with everything!

Hope you meet some interesting people today and have fun getting oriented. When do classes start?

  6. Thanks Kim! It is becomming more familiar each day which makes me feel better. I have run across some strange food- such as a bagel with cream cheese and smoked salmon which I love, but the salmon is RAW. Strange. Also they have bacon flavored potato chips! My dad would like those:)
Classes start Monday. Wish me luck.
